A6M2 Zero 6544 with tail code A1-1-129 crashed in the Russell Islands
At the center is the tail with A1-1-129 painted in red and the the rear fuselage painted gray which is damaged from the crash or salvage efforts. At left is the right wingtip with the Hinomaru (Rising Sun). Standing nearby are American personnel looking at the wreckage. In the background are rows of coconut palm trees indicating it crashed into a cultivated plantation area.
