Aircraft History
Built by Mitsubishi on April 14, 1942. At the factory, painted overall gray with a black engine cowl. Delivered to the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) as A6M2 Model 21 Zero manufacture number 4688.

Assigned Houkoku Number 490 (patriotic presentation number 490) in black on both sides of the rear fuselage. Donated by Awa Seishi (Awa Paper Manufacturing Company).

Wartime History
Assigned to the Tainan Kokutai with tail code V-179. This Zero operated from Lae Airfield.

Wartime History
This Zero was abandoned at Lae Airfield. On September 16, 1943 examined by Allied Technical Intelligence Unit (ATIU) that noted the manufacture number 4688 and photographed the Houkoku Gou 490. Ultimate fate unknown, likely scrapped or otherwise disappeared.
