Kato Rail Tractor
This is a very interesting relic. This tractor ran on a narrow gauge, 610mm rail road alongside Tobera Airstrip It was used to pull carts full of dirt used
to patch the airfields dirt runways when damaged by Allied bombs.
Chevrolet Engine
Surpassingly, the "striaght-8"
engine of this tractor was manufactured by Chevrolet! Before the Pacific War,
the Japanese imported much of their heavy equipment in the 1930's. Also, most
Japanese aircraft were constructed from scrap aluminum from the United States!
Tractor
Damage
This is one of the metal engine covers from the
tractor. It show the intensity of attacks against this specific vehicle.
Narrow
Gauge Rail Road
This pair of bogies fit the carts pulled
along behind the tractor that carried dirt to repair bomb damage in the runway
area.
