23rd Infantry Division (23rd ID) "Americal Division"

Background
On May 27, 1942 activated on New Caledonia under the command of Major General Alexander Patch. The 23rd Infantry Division (23rd ID) was the only U.S. Army Division formed outside the United States or a U.S. territory and became known as the "Americal Division" meaning American, New Caledonian Division.

132nd Infantry Regiment (132nd IR) "Semper Paratus" (Ever Ready)
Nicknamed "Ever Ready" Latin meaning Ever Ready.

164th Infantry Regiment (164th IR) "Je Suis Pret" (I Am Ready)
On October 13, 1942 the 164th Infantry Regiment entered combat on Guadalcanal as the first U.S. Army unit to conduct offensive operations in World War II alongside the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) 1st Marine Division (1st Mar Div). The 164th was affectionately nicknamed the "164th Marines" due to their special relationship with the Marines and respect earned from the seasoned veterans.
