Wartime History
One of two tanks sunk in Makada Harbor on Duke of York Island. It is speculated they were lost during an unsuccessful unloading, as both tanks are in a row.

Wreckage
Located further in the harbor, in 4m of water. A second Type 97 Tank is next to it. Discovered in the early 1990's by the MV Manta, as well as the remains of a landing barge. Their main guns are missing, possibly removed during the war.
