Ship History
Construction began on August 1, 1944 at Kure. Commissioned on Feburary 2, 1945.

Wartime History
This sub saw no wartime service before the war ended. Left Japan on December 11, 1945 via Guam and Eniwetok to Hawaii, for evaluation by the US Navy.

Evaluation & Sinking by US Navy
Sunk as a target ship on May 23, 1946 to test the Mark 9 expoder. Sunk by a torpedo fired from USS Queenfish SS-393. Sunk in deep water off Barber's Point, Oahu. Over the course of several days four captured subs were sunk: I-400, I-14, and I-401.
