curiosities of Naval engineering show how desperate the situation was in
Rabaul to conceal
everything from raiding Allied planes. These barges were designed to be towed
underwater by a submarine, and loaded with supplies or fuel.
Wreckage
Abandoned at Simpson Harbor at Rabaul, one of these barges surved and was used into the early 1980s, to shore fresh water.
