| The Story of America's Air Force Night Fighters
Review by John Douglas. This book is somewhat different to the usual squadron history publications, in that it also includes the technical side of night fighter development, (planes and radar) as well as U.S. night fighters based around the world in WWII. As a result activities in the U.S., Europe and Asia as well as the Pacific are covered. I personally would like to see the Pacific Theatre developed in more detail (but that’s my particular interest).
Given the wide range of locations covered, something had to give, so the level of diary entries, plane losses and personal stories is limited. The book is a useful addition to my library. It outlines Pacific early P70 postings to both Port Moresby and to Guadalcanal, as well as later postings to Dobuduru and of P61s to Hollandia and up the islands to Japan. The photos are excellent.
