Love, War and the 96th Engineers (Colored) The World War II New Guinea Diaries of Captain Hyman Samuelson This book is based off the diary of U.S. Army Captain Hyman Samuelson, a white officer in command of the 96th Engineers (Colored) comprised of African American enlisted soldiers in the South West Pacific Area (SWPA) during World War II. These were the first engineers sent overseas to Port Moresby in New Guinea and undertook road and construction projects, including building the causeway from Tatana Island to the mainland. In 2008, a paperback version was published. Review by Justin Taylan Return to Book Reviews | Add a review or submit for review Last Updated |
