Type 2 Float Plate Fighter (Rufe)
The "Rufe" was only one of
two types of single-seat float seaplane fighters of modern design
to participate in combat during WWII. The Japanese Navy instructed
Nakajima to build a float plane version of the Mitsubishi A6M2
Model 11 Zero (without folding wingtips).
Wartime Usage
They were deployed in the Marshall Islands, Solomons and Alaska, and in
the closing months of the war, several occasionally intercepted
Attackers from their base at Lake Biwa on Honshu.
