Airfield located in Santa Monica.

Santa Monica Museum of Flying (Closed)
New location of the museum, slated to open in late 2004. The Museum will place heavy emphasis on the history of the airport and the prominent role that the Douglas Aircraft Company played in the early development of commercial and military aviation.

Burbank

     Burbank Airport (Bob Hope Field)

Built in 1930, this airport was located at Lockheed's Burbank factory.  Still in use today as a commercial airport, just north of Los Angeles.

Located to the east of Los Angeles.

History
Pre-war the airport was a private flight school, Cal Areo Academy was taken over by the Air Corps. Used as a training facility during WWII, and after the war a boneyard for abandoned aircraft. After the war, it was used to film the movie "12 o'clock High" and

Today
Begining in the early 1970s, the airport became the center of the warbird restoration movement in Southern California.

Camarillo
Located to the north-west of Los Angeles in Ventura County.

     Oxnard (Camarillo) Air Force Base

Located between Oxnar and Camarillo, built in 1942 by the Buereau of Public Roads for light planes. With the outbreak of war, it was taken over by the USAAF, and charged with the protect the Los Angeles area from air attack. In July 1942 a P-38 Lightning squadron was assigned to the field. In mid-1943 the field became a US Navy Auxilliary Air Station with torpedo planes and drone aircraft.  Used after the war as a USAF base.
