Location
Nukufetau Atoll is comprised of a dozen major islands surrounding the Nukufetau Lagoon in Tuvalu (Ellice Islands). To the southwest is Savave Island and to the south is Motulalo Island.

Wartime History
Nukufetau Lagoon has a deep water passage allowing larger ships to enter the lagoon and during the war was used by the US Navy.

Motulalo Island
Located to the south of the atoll, developed into Motulalo Airfield (Nukufetau)

Savave Island
Located to the southwest of the atoll with the largest village
