Location
Otta Island is a small island to the west of Mesegon Island (Megeson) at the southern edge of Truk Lagoon in Chuuk State (Truk) in the Federated States of Micronesia. Also known as Ocha Island. To the west is Otta Pass, a wide deep water passage.
Wartime History
During the war, a six man detachment of the 41st Naval Guard Force was stationed on the island, to man two 15cm coastal defense guns and a 75mm searchlight and light anti-aircraft guns. Also, barracks, a sound locator and generator. The island was surrounded by 145 navy beach mines placed 40-60m from shore in 6m intervals.
