Location
Point located on the north coast of Guadalcanal, near Tassafaronga and just west of the Bonegi. The village of Ruaniu is located here, as was the pre-war Ruaniu plantation.
Wartime History
Occupied by the Japanese,
it was the site of a resupply attempt on October 15, 1942 that resulted in
the sinking of three transports, two of them at this location. Later, as American forces advanced against the Japanese in early 1943, the Japanese used 3" Anti-Aircraft at this location against the advancing US Army 147th Infantry Regiment.
Tom McLeod adds:
"There is a deep ravine near the village. The was the Japs last MLR on the Canal. Lots of unexploded ordinance when I was last there."
