Location
Coastal area west of the Kokumbona.
Wartime History
Two Japanese transports were beached on November 15, 1942 during the Japanese reinforcement of Guadalcanal. The US Army captured Bonegi on January 30, 1943.

Bonegi
River
US Army troops crossed the Bonegi River on January 30, 1943. A bridge of logs was initially built over the river, later improved with a Bailey bridge that was used until the early 2000's, then discarded when a new span was built over the river.
US Army Camp
There
was a US camp on the beach in 1943 - 45 and across the road
was
the firing range with M4 Sherman Tank "Jezebel" and a
junk pile in the jungle. The ridge they walked up in Thin

Japanese Hospital Area
The "hospital
area" at
Bonegi was a gathering of sick and
dying Japanese. US Army went through this area and killed them
during late January 1943.
