Prewar and during the Pacific War located in the Central District in the Territory of New Guinea. Today located in Goilala District of Central Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG).

Postwar
During the colonial era, a Patrol Officer (Kiap) was based at Tapini and Tapini Airfield was constructed in the postwar era.
