Porlock Harbor (Port Lock)

Lat 9 02 S Long 149' 00E A network of lagoons. fringed by a reef, 16-22m deep.

Click For EnlargementLocated to the halfway between Tufi and Oro Bay. Porlock Harbor was occupied by American forces in the early stages of the war, including anti-aircraft guns at Cody's Point across the bay and living quarters.

Click For Enlargement"I visited this area on November 22, 2003, and the local kids and elders showed me several sites:  a kitchen mess area where the Americans ate, the site of several wartime graves of Americans that died here (unclear if they were exhumed post war or not) and the kids knew of an airplane wreck down the beach to the west, we walked for a long time, but never found it before time there ran out. They also pointed out the site of the sunken ship, s'Jacob."
