PT Boat Advance Base Six
Located at Kana Kopa, Milne Bay. The base
was established on December 11, 1942. The base was then built by US Navy
Seabees from the 55th Battalion who arrrived May 23, 1943 and built the
base in five weeks the face of adverse weather and conditions. Later
construction included housing for 800 men, shops, storehouses, quonset
huts, 3 x 15,000 gallon water tanks, timber wharp, two pontoon drydocks
and an engine overhaul facility. Disbanded
in June 1944 when boats moved forward to Dreger
Harbor, near Finschafen.
