Village on the north-western coast of Milne Bay, between Swinger Bay to the east and Ladava to the west.

Gili Gili Dock
The main dock area, jetty and pontoon wharf. Towards end of July 1942 suspected B-17 with USAAF markings at Gilli Gilli, revisting every day for a week, they went out and waved at it, then went away (Possible Japanese captured plane?)

MV Anshun
Sunk September 6, 1942 by air attack, refloated September 1944 and returned to service

'A' Australian Heavy Battery
Established at Gili Gili after the Battle of Milne Bay.  This battery's equipment was transfered to Boera Battery outside Port Moresby on May 20, 1943.

Turnbull Field (No. 3 Strip)
Construction begain just prior to the Battle of Milne Bay, afterwards developed into a fighter and bomber base. Disused since the war.

Swinger Bay (Stringer Bay)
Located at the north-east corner of Milne Bay. Seabees built an amphibious traning center at this location. The facility was completed by the 105th Battalion Seabees that arrived in January 1944. The center included housing for 1,500 men in quonset huts, shorehouses, mess, classrooms, shops and development of 2,000' of waterfront.
