Location Lat 6° 39' 35" S Long 147° 50' 19" E Cape Cretin is located to the south of Finschafen on the north coast of New Guinea. Prewar and during the Pacific War located in the Morobe District in the Territory of New Guinea. Today located in Morobe Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Wartime History Cape Cretin was developed into a US Navy and US Army base. Used as a staging area by 45,110 men troops from the U.S. Army, 1st Cavalry Division prior to their landings in the Admiralty Islands. All troops were to concentrate at Oro Bay and Cape Cretin with the Australian Army 6th Division was designated as a reserve force.
