Boang Island

Tanga Island group, to the north of New Ireland

History
Reconnoitered by coastwatcher Harry Murray and members of the USMC/USN on December 29, 1943 for a potential airfield site.

Today
Planes used to go to Tanga from Lihir and Namatanai however I believe the runway has deteriorated to an extent that pilots refuse to fly there anymore. I am not sure who built it but i will ask some local people if they know anything. Thanks to Ashley Creighton for this information.
