Wartime History
In January 1945, elements of the 38th Division immediately dashed inland to take the San Marcelino airstrip, but found that Filipino guerrillas under the command of Capt. Ramon Magsaysay, later president of the Republic of the Philippines, had secured the field three days earlier.

Subic Bay
Subic Bay, one of Southeast Asia's finest natural harbors, lies between Bataan and Zambales provinces on the main Philippine island of Luzon, it contains a number of historic ship and aircraft wrecks from invasion of Luzon, and liberation of the Philippines. Liberated on January 30, 1945 by 38th Infantry Division.
