Davao Del Sur Province

Province on the south coast of Mindanao.

Sarangani Bay
Bay located at the far south of Mindanao, located 75 miles to the south-west of Davao. MacArthur had originally planned to land here as the first landing in his Philippine liberation campaign. Instead, it turned out to be the final amphibious landing of the Mindanao campaign July 12, 1945 by a battalion of the 24th Infantry Division, who landed unopposed and joined with guerilla forces and proceeded inland to attack 2,000 Japanese troops isolated in this area in fighting for two weeks.

Digos
Located 40 miles to the south of Davo. American forces arrived here from Route 1 from the west coast where they had landed and secured on Kabakan three days earlier. Japanese at Digos were prepared for an amphibious assault against the town, not an attack from the interior of the island. The fighting for the town was brief but intense.
