Batangas Province

Batangas is in southwestern Luzon. It is bounded on the north by Cavite Province, on the east by Laguna Province and Quezon Province, on the west by the South China Sea, and on the south by the Verde Island Passage, with Mindoro ofshore to the south.

Lat 14° 4' 58N Long 121° 9' 2E Located to off the north-east corner of Taal Lake. The name Tanauan comes from the word "tanawan"-- meaning a viewing place or a good spot to look at a certain view.

Construction
Built by US Army engineers during 1941 to accomidate B-17 bombers, but was never completed or used.

Wartime History
This airfield was abandoned when the Americans ordered all forces to move to Bataan for its defense.

Click For EnlargementThe bay is popular dive spot with many reefs and sites for SCUBA divers. There ar known shipwrecks, one is a capsized barge (identity unknown) in 15-50' at 'Twin Rocks' the other is a ferry sunk post-war. The port of Batangas is used by ships and ferry boats going to nearby Mindoro Island.
