    Bamban (Bambam) Tarlac Province | Luzon Philippines
Location
Lat 15° 40' 53N Long 120° 20' 51E  Bamban (Bambam) is located in Tarlac Province in central Luzon in the Philippines. To the south is the Bamban River and Mabalacat. To the north is Capas and beyond Tarlac (Tarlac City). The prewar Manila Railroad line and Route 3 highway crossed the Bamban River to the south and continued to the northeast to Capas then Tarlac (Tarlac City).

Wartime History
During early 1942, the retreating U.S. Army destroyed the bridge over the Bamban River. During 1942, occupied by the Japanese who made a wooden bridge at the same location. By January 1945, this bridge was destroyed by U.S. aerial attacks and sabotage by guerrillas. After the U.S. Army landing at Lingayen Gulf, Bamban west of the divisional boundary between the 40th Division and 37th Division.

On January 23, 1945 the U.S. Army, 40th Infantry Division (40th ID), 160th Infantry Regiment (160th IR) advancing southward along Route 3 liberates Bamban Airfield without opposition. Small groups of Japanese defended Bamban town. One battalion engaged them and cleared the town area by afternoon and advanced westward towards the hills while another battalion advanced southward to the ford over Bamban River but came under mortar fire from the hills to the west. The Japanese defensive positions in the hills and high ground formed the northern edge of the Clark Field perimeter.
