Japanese Seaplane Flight
Japanese Submarine I-25 launched a 'Glen' reconnassance seaplane, piloted by W/O Fujita Nobuo overflew the city during the night of March 8, 1942. Afterwards, this submarine and same aircraft patrolled off Auckland and overflew there too.

Cook Straight
On February 22, 1942 Japanese submarine I-10 was detected by radio detection, but not found in subsequent searches from the air.
