Location
Inland settlement in eastern Mongolia. Pronounced 'Ma-tad'.

Wartime History
Prewar, there was a coal mining operation at this settlement, linked with a narrow guage rail road line. During the late 1930s, it was a military base and support area for the May - August Battle of Khalkhin Gol / Nomonhan Incident.
