Sinking History
On January 31, 1944 destroyer USS Harrison was supporting cruiser USS San Francisco in the shelling
of Gugegue Island. The ships
spotted a Japanese tanker steaming north. Harrison fired 153
rounds of 5-inch shells at the target. The ship was left burning
and sinking.
Although not confirmed, it is believed the
vessel is either 541 ton net tender Katsura Maru or 723 ton Kotobuki
Maru No. 3 both of which were sunk on that day.
