Location
Asuncion Island is located in the Northern Islands Municipality at the northern end of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) in the Mariana Island Group (Mariana Islands) in the United States of America (USA). To the south is Agrihan Island (Aguigan) and further to the south is Saipan Island.
Wartime History
In June of 1945, an unauthorised landing was initiated by Lt. Col. Chalfant who sent a number of Military Police (MP) battalions to Asuncion Island to mop up the island, but they were
unable to find any Japanese.
