Construction
Built by the Japanese Navy, under the command
of Captain Kitawaga who also oversaw its defense. Once completed,
it was never used operationally.
Supposedly, it was bombed as soon as it was completed.
FSM Capital
On the
site of the former airfield, the Government buildings for legislation
and congress etc were built in the 1980s. The FSM government
offices are all located here, also the president's office and
the offices of the leaders from the other FSM islands. This
is where all the congress-type business is attended to and
so this mini village is called the FSM Capital. Nobody actually
lives here it si offices only.
