RAAF Base Forest Hill is located
on the outskirts of Wagga and was the base for No 30 and No
31 Beaufighter Squadrons
at one point during the war. Post war, it was
the site of a lot of aircraft scrapping of surplus airframes.
Both Forest Hill and Waga Waga
have merged (or Wagga has 'taken' Forest Hill). Today, the official name
of the base is RAAF Base Wagga. It is still used by the RAAF,
mainly used as a storage
depot and home to RAAF School of Technical Training (RSTT)
RAAF Wagga
Museum
There is a museum outside the airbase. It
is a small museum, the main attraction being the five aircraft
on display outside (Canberra, Meteor, Winjeel, Sabre and Mirage).
It is owned by the RAAF Museum
at Point Cook. The museum owns wreckage of a Wirraway that
crashed on 'The Rock' (a nearby mountain/hill).
