Wartime airfield located along the Sutart
Highway, and Douglas River.. Built by the American 43rd
Engineer Regiment in March 1942. In addition, work by
the engineers of the US 808th Engineers and Allied Works
Council and the No 1 Airfield Construction Unit completed
the stirp. The RAAF occupied the base in November 24,
1942 when No 54 Operational Base Unit administered the
base.
No 18 NEI-RAAF Squadron
This mixed unit flew B-25's piloted by Dutch pilots, and
crewed by Australian RAAF crews. It operated from this
location from January 18, 1943, to May 7, 1943 flying
missions to Japanese occupied Timor,
and Penfoei.
The airfield became an Army communication
camp, but at least one force landing occured at the former
airfield.
