Escape River
Took off from Townsville in a group of P-39s headed for Port Moresby. After refuelling at Cooktown, they ran into a heavy storm near Horn Island. Charles Faletta, the flight leader decided to head back to land to find a suitable place to land. Faletta and his wingman Harveychose to land at a spot near the Escape River on the Cape York Penninsula.
