Location
Small island 2 x 4 miles located 35 miles east of Attu Island.

Wartime History
Japanese forces at one time planned to occupy Shemya, but the landing was called off and they never landed on the island. After the liberation of Attu Island, on May 29, 1943 US Army forces landed on Shemya and developed an airfield on the island.
