Jean-Claude Tranape  Aore Island

MapRelics of the island of Aore near Luganville (Island of SANTO)
AORE ISLAND is just 3 km across the water from Espiritu Santo. Aore provides coconuts, cocoa, beef cattle and tropical jungle an ideal base for holidays adventures. We stay only 2 days with our sailing boat "Sapajou", just in front of the very nice place, the AORE RESORT

: If you visite AORE ISLAND, you must do an arrangement with AORE RESORT to rent a car with driver, because it has only one or two kinds of "taxi" in the island. The tour of the island take approximatively two hours. On the picture you can see an old mooring buoy use by the U.S. NAVY. Probably the chain was worn and break with a storm and now the buoy was on the beach. Behind AORE RESORT, in the coconut plantation you can see many bunkers at the limite of the jungle. In some of these bunkers, you can find all kinds of material left by the U.S. Army : pipes, olds outboard engine for boat, very big ropes, etc. The empty bunkers are still use by the natives in case of hurricane where they can find a very good shelter. In other time, only hundred of bats were lived inside. The natives said that more 40 bunkers of different sizes can be seen in the island. During our tour, we meet the rear of a plane. This part of plane was carried by the natives and a team of U.S. peoples few days before our visit. They found it in the jungle and carried here to be show to the tourist. They do not know the story of this plane, but they said that it has a total of 4 planes crashed in the jungle. To day, only one plane was found because the jungle is very dense. The 3 others were not discovered. We will come back later.
