I never fully appreciated what happened in the Pacific until later while serving in both the Navy and Marine Corps (another story).

Traveling the Pacific had given me a new perspective on all that I "thought" I had learned in my history classes. So many horrific battles fighting for strategic dots on a map. It was during this time that my casual interest evolved more into fascination and respect.

My travels include (military and personal) the Aleutians, Okinawa, Philippines, Australia, Guam, Truk, Kwajalein, Saipan, Tinian, Midway, and of course Oahu.

We're going back to Truk next year, and hopefully a visit to Tarawa.
