Nicholas Bracken    Fenton Airfield & Dog Tag

I am an avid World War II fan and have visited many historical sites in and around the Northern Territory area.

Fenton Airfield
The whole site originally contained about four B24 and a Betty Bomber that as shot down on a raid over the strip. But in the post war years scrap merchants came and got rid of most thing but a few things where left and there is a lot bullet proof glass and bullet links with 50 cal links on them. I have also found a few bits of straps and other bits of fabric.

B-24 Bomber Relics
These are the photos of the aircraft graveyard unfortunately they where taken strait after the wet season and the spear grass is very high. The first photo is of me and my younger brother I'm am the one in the yellow hat, I think this is a side waist gunners position. When I was there a few years ago there was still abit of paint on it and the American star was just visible but that might have been a different piece. The second picture is of my dad Garry and I haven't been able to identify these bits. The Third bit is off a tail section of a B24 it is upside down and inside has very faint stenciled instructions and warnings in red. there is still some aileron that is still moveable.

US Dog Tag - Do you know "Harold C. Johnson"?
I have had the Dog Tag for a number of years and have tried to locate the owner but have unfortunately failed to find him as i could not get hold of any good lists of possible leads and those which i followed have turned up no new leads. I actually found the Dog Tag while with my father who took my brother and I down to the fenton airstrip one more than one occasion to look for relics of the era. But as you would probably know that more of these precious items of history have already been lost. but I was walking down from the main hill at the actual base camp were the main officers area was and got to the bottom of the hill and just started to look at the ground and started to search the area and saw this glint of metal and looked down and pulled it out of the ground and only them realized what I had found.
