Saburo Sakai Flying Helmet, Goggles and Belt Buckle

Displayed at the Nimitz Museum. Worn by Japanese Zero fighter pilot, Saburo Sakai on August 7, 1942 mission to Guadalcanal. Over Tulagi, while attacking SBD Dauntless dive bombers he mistook for F4F Wildcats, his Zero was damaged and he was wounded in the head and eye by rear gunner Harold L. Jones.
