Pilot History
Edward G. Dickey was born in 1916 in Lincon County, Tennessee. He completed four years of college and was involved in athletics.

Wartime History
On September 4, 1941 he enlisted in the U.S. Army as an aviation cadet serial number 14051750. After receiving his wings he was sent overseas to Australia. Assigned to the 5th Air Force, 475th Fighter Group, 432nd Fighter Squadron as a P-38 Lightning pilot. Dickey was assigned P-38H Lightning 42-66841 and flew this aircraft on combat missions over New Guinea.

After returning home from the South Pacific, he died rescuing a woman trapped in a car during a flood and tornado and was carried away and electrocuted before he could get clear of the vehicle.
