Kangu Beach   Munitions Discoveries 2002

During 2002, in preparation for the construction of a new wharf at Kangu Beach, southern Bougainville, a munitions search was preformed by MilSearch. Their search revealed evidence of a beach prepared for an Allied attack that never came. Photos via David Bridge.

Two 140mm guns remain at Kangu. Hundreds of rounds were discovered on the beach. The guns will remain flanking the wharf, as memorials.
