Daniel Leahy  Amberley Airfield

Photos and text by Daniel Leahy from his September 2001 visits.

Catalina A24-104 and A-20 "Hell'N Pelican II" Unfortunately, because of the planned airshow (cancelled due to security issues the day after I visited), the remains of the other A-20 were removed to clean the place up a bit.

Catalina Restoration Update
September 2001 When I visited, the fuselage looked complete, although the wings were removed for display at the Amberley airshow (cancelled) and because they would not fit inside the hangar. While speaking to Dennis, he said something about the RAAF Museum cutting funding to the project because it was taking too long and that the restorations at Amberley were being shut down. The Cat now is unknown to me. I think it's being sent to the RAAF Museum at \, whether to be completed or just put into storage ... I don't know. It's pretty dissapointing, especially considering how far it has gone.

The January/February 2002 edition of Australian Aviation in the mail and there is a large article about the Catalina moving to Point Cook
