Peter Flahavin 1996

Wartime History
Two guns emplaced near Red Beach on Guadalcanal and captured after the Marine landing on August 7, 1942.

Wreckage
Two 75mm remained sunken into the sand at Red Beach. Both were totally rusted.

The first had the barrel attached (as of the late 1990s)

The second was only the gun mount with the barrel missing (as of late 1990s).

Peter Flahavin observed in 1996:
"We were told these guns were three of a four gun battery defending Lunga Point Airfield (Henderson Field) that was captured by the Marines. People remember seeing a fourth gun but nobody seems to know what has become of it today."

It is possible these two guns are missing or scrapped since the late 1990s.
