Built by Armstrong or Vickers in the United Kingdom. Prior to World War I, this gun was purchased by the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) and shipped to Japan.
Wartime History
One of two naval guns emplaced in a battery on the coast of Betio Island defending Tarawa Atoll. On November 20, 1943 disabled by U.S. Navy (USN) bombardment prior to the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) landing on Betio Island. Nearby is 200mm Naval Gun Type 41 (1908) No. 2 (Broken Barrel).
Wreckage
This gun remain in situ on the coast of Betio Island.
