Floyd Robertson

Hi,

A WW2 veteran lived up the street where I grew up.

His name was Floyd Robertson.

He told me stories about flying the B-17 in the Pacific.

One story was about a reconnaissance mission against Truk.

He indicated that the previous two B-17s sent on that mission did not return.

I have been unable to find any information that matches his description.

What I did find was a B-17 reconnaissance mission out of Midway against Wake
that matched some of his description:

"FRIDAY, 31 JULY 1942
1 B-17, from Midway Island, flies photo reconnaissance of Wake Island. The B-17 is Intercepted by 6 fighters; in the ensuing fight US gunners claim 4 fighters destroyed."

Does anyone have any information about a B-17 reconaissance mission piloted by Floyd Robertson?
