Guadalcanal, Americal Division part of the 164 IR
I am trying to find out more about the first Army unit to enter into the fighting on Guadalcanal, more specifically a GI that was DOW and succumbed of his wounds on the Island. Can anybody find out what battle he was wounded in and the date of his passing. Name is Willard J. Coulter from ND. Middle name was Joseph his serial number is 20710802

Coulter died on November 25, 1942.

This book, text only version online here: https://archive.org/stream/UnderTheSout ... s_djvu.txt
describes the fighting that proceeded November 25, 1942.
This report in the Congressional Record (search for Coulter) says he was in Company B (which would be in the 1st Battalion).
