Not sure how accurate this is, but this is what I have on this a/c: 405thSqdsn 38th BG.

One crew member's remains positively id'ed, and the dog tags of another found in the wreckage. Japanese troops prevented a more thorough search for the crew. Names do show on the ABMC list .

Aub L. Atkins Jr. remains have been recovered and postively identifed. He was a member of the "Happy Legend" (38th Bomb Group) that went down in the Owen Stanley Mountains, New Guinea on Dec 5, 1942 while on a bombing run to Buna.
There will be a full military funeral at the Salem Cemetery, Athens, Louisiana on May 16, 2009. The Atkins family would like to thank all the people who helped us bring Aub Jr. home after 66 years. He was never forgotten.

Mary Ann Muller Plauche
Niece of Aub L. Atkins Jr.
