Quake hits Papua New Guinea
November 21, 2007 01:49am
A QUAKE with a magnitude of 6.3 struck the remote Papua New Guinea island of Bougainville late today, the US Geological Survey said, but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
The quake hit at 10.53pm (23:53 AEDT) some 77km south of Arawa, the capital of Bougainville province, at a depth of 73km, it said.
Papua New Guinea sits on the so-called Pacific “Ring of Fire”, where continental plates meet.
The region is frequently rocked by earthquakes.
