B-25 Mitchell N5-156

Post by Boba »

I am currently updating my Allied aircraft crash site files in the Northern Territory as much as possible but hindered with the bulk of my collection in Darwin.

I am seeking information on the crash of B-25 Mitchell N5-156 of No. 18 NEI Squadron east of Hughes airfield on 21 October 1943. One crew member, Sgt Keesmaart, was killed after a flare ignited inside the aircraft during a night exercise. The crew were able to parachute to safety however Keesmaart apparently didn't have a parachute.

Major sections of the aircraft wreckage remain and are on private property.

Any information appreciated.

Cheers,
