Disastrous Date in 11th Bomb Group History

Post by FinishForty »

On June 27, 1943: Eight B-24s were scheduled to bomb Nauru. The first Liberator crashed into the ocean after take-off from Funafuti. Six more got airborne, then the eighth exploded in the air over the water right after take-off. The mission was cancelled but three planes pressed on to Nauru.

Can you provide the AAF Aircraft serial numbers for the two B-24s? And the complete crew lists for the two aircraft?

Thanks.
