Looking for information concerning the crash of a C-47 (?) aircraft attempting to take off from Wards Airdrome, NG, on 14 June 1943 as described in Ernest C. Ford's book MY NEW GUINEA DIARY. The accident does not show up in the accident record on the microfilm. The airplane was the "lead ship" of a combat cargo flight according to Ford. Cpl. Marlin D. Metzger and Pfc. Frank S. Penska were killed in the crash.
Looking for any information concerning this accident.

Re: C-47 crash at Wards A/D 14 June 1943
I was traveling when I posted this thread. When I got home I was able to do a little more work on this. I discovered in my own data base of AAF accidents that these two crewmembers were killed in the crash of the B-17C (40-2072) at Bakers Creek and not at Wards A/D. The two crewmembers mentioned above were members of Ford's outfit, 6TCS. This B-17C crash has to be what he is referring to. Ford was in Autstalia by then I think; Wards A/D was where Ford was stationed prior. Sorry for the mix up.
